YouTube Thumbnail Spec

YouTube custom thumbnails: 1280×720px minimum (16:9), 640px minimum width, JPG, GIF, or PNG. File size cap is 2MB for mobile uploads and 50MB for desktop uploads. Custom thumbnails require a phone-verified channel.

Convert from:

PNG, WebP, HEIC, TIFF, BMP → JPG or PNG

Signed-in accounts can target an exact output file size (in KB) instead of guessing a quality setting — useful for staying under YouTube's 2MB mobile cap. See our full creator format guide.
