Color Depth
The number of bits used to represent the color of a single pixel.
Color depth (or bit depth) determines how many distinct colors an image can contain. 8 bits per channel (24-bit color) is standard; higher depths, supported by TIFF and AVIF, allow smoother gradients and are used in professional photography and HDR.
